Level 3, Perkins North

Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research

About

Since 1998, the Perkins has grown to become one of the nation’s leading medical research centres, where a close knit team of more than 250 work together to focus on diseases that most affect your families. With three research facilities, co-located with major teaching hospitals, the Perkins has created a culture of innovation and collaboration to deliver better patient outcomes faster.

The Perkins Nedlands building is located at the QEII Medical Centre, Nedlands. The 8 storey building houses laboratories, clinical space, the Lotterywest BioDiscovery Centre, state-of-the-art research facilities and centres, and a ground floor cafe, Coffee Anatomy. The building is a collaborative powerhouse with diverse research groups that include, in addition to Perkins researchers, members of The University of Western Australia Medical School, Lions Eye Institute and Institute for Respiratory Health. It also houses the headquarters of collaborative hubs and networks, such as the MTPConnect WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub and WA Health Translation Network, as well as Linear Clinical Research and multiple biotech companies, all working under one roof with the aim of uncovering innovative solutions to the major health challenges facing Western Australians.

Project

Perkins North is bursting at the seams with talented researchers, innovators and clinicians. The last remaining space in the building is on Level 3 and the Perkins gave the iPREP Biodesign team the opportunity to help scope what it could look like. The team collated a multitude of ideas to present what is needed, what is possible and what is desirable by speaking to the many stakeholders involved in the medical research and innovation journey, the QEII Medical Centre, and the broader health and biomedical innovation ecosystem.
