What A Year!
Perth Biodesign 2021
Perth Biodesign would like to acknowledge the support of our community, enabling us to make great strides towards our goal of accelerating biomedical entrepreneurship in Western Australia. We look forward to nurturing our new networks across government, industry sectors, research institutions and WA hospitals, owing our success to the generosity of our alumni and close-knit ecosystem. In case you missed it, here’s what Perth Biodesign has been up to in 2021.
2020/2021 Perth Biodesign for MedTech Grows Healthcare Innovation
Commenced in October 2020, four multidisciplinary teams were immersed in WA public hospitals to identify unmet clinical needs and to develop medical technology solutions over the course of seven months.
Congratulations to overall winner Team Sirius, for their monitoring technology that aims to protect vulnerable patients from injuries associated with peripheral intravenous catheters. Well done to all teams and thank you alumni mentors and guest speakers for providing invaluable knowledge and support.
iPREP Biodesign Builds University-Industry Engagement in 2021
Three iPREP Biodesign placement rounds were successfully completed this year. Multidisciplinary teams of WA PhD candidates were placed into progressive businesses to work on industry-defined projects. Students also received weekly training on Biodesign methodology and professional skills.
Social events were held throughout the year, as a way of expressing gratitude and creating further networks within our vibrant iPREP Biodesign community. We are now recruiting industry partners and students for 2022 and offer either a seven week or three month placement.
2021 Biodesign Bootcamps Whet Innovation Appetite
Three Biodesign bootcamps were held in 2021, providing participants with a taste of Biodesign methodology. Over two full days, participants learnt how to identify clinical unmet needs, characterise needs, analyse existing solutions and stakeholders, implement strategies, IP fundamentals, reimbursement and regulatory pathways and business models.
We look forward to providing this oversubscribed offering in 2022, with plans to roll out the first Bootcamp in February.
Perth Biodesign for Digital Health Gearing Up for 2022
We are in our final recruitment phase for our Digital Health Course for 2022, with applications closing next Wednesday, 22nd December. Multidisciplinary teams will investigate unmet clinical needs in WA public hospitals and work over a four month period to create a digital health solution. Under guidance of our course directors, industry experts and our partner, Skills of the Modern Age, participants will learn innovation methodologies, commercialisation fundamentals and prototype development skills, while developing deep connections into the digital innovation ecosystem.
MedTech Shines at WAIOTY 2021
Congratulations to WA Innovator of the Year Awards category winners VeinTech, VitalTrace and Navier Medical. We are proud to have supported VeinTech and VitalTrace since their earliest beginnings and appreciate their ongoing contribution as valuable alumni members. Congratulations to the overall winner, Vision Pharma. We look forward to providing you with an iPREP Biodesign team in 2022, as a gold sponsor of this prestigious event.
Biomedical Engineering Innovation, Design & Entrepreneurship Alliance, Asia Pacific Summit (BME-IDEA-APAC) Strengthens our International Innovation Community
Biodesign Australia was honoured to co-host the BME-IDEA-APAC with TMU Biodesign in Taiwan this year. This event provided an excellent opportunity to create synergies between stakeholders by a wide spectrum of discussions related to medical innovation across the Asia Pacific region. Representatives shared common challenges, best practices, and new opportunities post-COVID for healthcare innovation programs.
Biodesign Australia is a network, allowing Biodesign programs across Australia to share resources, speakers, and best practice. Perth Biodesign is proudly part of this community. Visit the Biodesign Australia website and follow on LinkedIn
